Regular deodorant contains toxins such as aluminium, parabens, triclosan, propylene glycol, chemical fragrances (phthalates), DEA and more. Some of these toxins are known carcinogens which means they've been proven to cause cancer. Others affect the kidneys, lungs, heart, reproductive and nervous systems. Natural deodorant contains none of these. Fragrances come from essential oils and fruit extracts and there are no ingredients that can harm the human body in any way.
Remember, when it comes to natural deodorant, every “body” is different, we all sweat and smell differently and what doesn’t work for one person, may be great for you! This means you may need to try 2 or 3 different deodorants before you find the winner. Your pits need to detox from regular deodorant so give each new one a trial for at least 2 weeks. If it’s still not working, try a deodorant with a different base ingredient, that usually fixes it. See the next question below for details
The key here is the base ingredient. If the main ingredient (first ingredient listed) in your current natural deodorant is shea butter, then try one with a base ingredient of coconut oil. Try a different brand. Try one with bi-carb if you tried one without it before. Remember your pits need time to detoxify from regular deodorant, so give it some time and keep trying until you find what works for you.
If you’ve been using natural deodorant for a while and everything seems to irritate you, try Schmidt’s Fragrance Free Deodorant Stick. This stick is free from bi-carb and it’s free from essential oils (which some find irritates the skin). Otherwise always look for a "sensitive skin" deodorant. Check there's no bi-carb in the ingredients. That's the main irritant for most people. Woohoo's Mellow Deodorant Paste in another great one.
