If there’s a natural, toxin free fake tan out there, we’ve tried it. If you want an insider’s personal experience and insights into a range of light, medium, dark tans, mousse, cream, water or spray toxin free fake tans, then read on...

Eco Tan Winter Skin

If you want something simple and light but that won’t leave your skin orange or streaky, Winter Skin by Eco Tan is perfect. This award winning tan is perfect for fair to medium skin tones. You get a whopping 200ml in one bottle which is huge! I use this on my face daily after cleansing and I’ve actually had the bottle for 2 years now and I still haven’t used it all. Best of all this fake tan doubles up as a moisturiser for smoother, softer skin.

Eco Tan Face Tan Water

If you don’t like creams and want to try something different, some people swear by Eco Tan’s Face Tan Water which is also Certified Organic. This light tan is meant for the face only and literally has the same consistency as water. Some feel that can make it a bit hard to apply but I’ve used it many times and you simply splash a small amount into your hands and rub it on your face just as if you’re washing it. The applicator under the lid keeps the product from spilling out too quickly so you don’t end up over-doing it.

La Mav’s Self Tan Dry Oil

This certified organic fake tan is similar to the Face Tan Water in its consistency, however, as it’s an oil, it has a bit more substance to it. It’s still a very light oil so don’t think you’ll be rubbing grease all over your face. It is a dry oil which means it’s quick drying so it won’t leave your skin feeling sticky and gross. This tan takes about 3-4 hours to develop so it’s best to use overnight (like most tans) or in the morning to give you a healthy glow by midday. It’s also infused with magnesium which helps to stimulate protein synthesis and promote the production of collagen and elastin.

La Mav Gradual Tanning Moisturiser Medium (also comes in Light)

If a light tan isn’t for you, you have less fair skin or you just want something that shows up more, than La Mav’s Gradual Tanning Moisturiser in Medium is perfect. This natural fake tan is literally medium in every way. It’s darker than Eco Tan’s Face Tan Water and Winter Skin and it’s lighter than others such as Eco Tan’s Mousse or their Hempitan Spray Tan. As it’s a gradual tan you want to place it on before bed and let is develop overnight. It’s Certified Organic and infused with magnesium which not only promotes collagen production but it also plays a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body. It also helps with muscle relaxation and can help you calm down before bed for a better night’s sleep. A tan and sleep, what could be better right?

Lavera Self-Tanning Body Lotion

This organic tanning lotion by Lavera offers a medium tan for the body. You can of course use it on your face as well if you wish. This tan is multi-award winning, streak free and very gentle on sensitive skin. It uses aloe vera and plant based glycerin to moisturise and it contains organic shea butter, sunflower oil and vitamins E & C to protect the skin. It develops in 3-4 hours so it’s another great one to use before bed.

WOTNOT Natural Golden Gradual Tanning Lotion

I’ve used this one a many times. The consistency is a bit thicker than other creams but it still rubs in just as easily as any other natural fake tans and it spreads on just the same. It almost has a transparent colour to it, you’ll know what I mean when you try it. It’s another overnight developer, it moisturises REALLY well and it offers the perfect non-orange medium tan. I call this one the Goldie Locks Tan, not too light, not too dark, it’s just right.

Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse

This mousse is by far one of the best natural fake tans available! Not everyone loves foam but if you use a mitt to rub it in then you’re in for a really great dark tan. Even better, use it two nights in a row for a super dark brown tan to wear out for any special occasion. The consistency of this mousse it flawless, it doesn’t run, it’s BROWN and there are no streaks. It develops overnight and it doesn’t leave you feeling sticky. It also lasts ages and spreads on the body really well. Did I mention it’s award winning, Certified Organic and one of “Tonia’s Favourites” as listed here at Natural Society? This tan is a winner, TRUST ME!

Eco Tan Hempitan Body Tan Water

This is also a really great dark tan but in a spray bottle. There’s no compressed can here, it’s literally just straight tanning liquid that’s easy to spray on. Personally I find spraying fake tan on to be a pain because if you do it inside you get it everywhere and I DON’T want to go outside during winter to put it on, otherwise you just freeze to death. Regardless, this tan gives a great, dark, dark brown, LONG LASTING colour. It’s perfect for spritzing on your face just before bed. It takes just one hour to develop which is great when you look down an hour before going out and realise your legs are super pasty!

La Mav’s Anti-Ageing Face Serum is your best friend for helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines through the use of co-enzyme Q10. This luxurious cream rubs in easily and develops in just 2-3 hours and it’s buildable which means you can re-apply as much as you need to get the perfect level of “sun kissed glow” you’re looking for. It’s also Certified Organic by the OFC. The best part is that it contains Hyaluronic Acid which if you didn’t know, is a natural ingredient that holds over 1000 times it’s weight in water. This means it helps boost hydration levels for plumper, firmer skin.

For a longer lasting tan, use La mav Summer Skin Salt Scrub about 24 hours before you tan to help remove dead skin cells and keep your tan hanging around a few days longer.
