WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TURMERIC?

Turmeric is the spice that gives many popular curries their gorgeous bright yellow colour. Over the last few years’ turmeric’s popularity has exploded in health and beauty industries. On googling “what does turmeric do” I actually got 63,100,000 results. And if that wasn’t enough for you to take it seriously, did you know that turmeric has been used for medicinal purposes in India since 500 BCE? Now that’s saying something!

The element in turmeric that does all the magic is actually a compound called curcumin. This compound is a strong anti-inflammatory, it boosts your immune system AND it’s a powerful antioxidant. The benefits of this spice are endless. The greatest visual benefit of using turmeric is its ability to give you naturally glowing skin. Curcumin also reduces scaring including acne scaring, psoriasis, rashes and burns. It also helps relieve pain, especially from arthritis. I have personally seen reviews from customers who have shared that their arthritis is now manageable thanks to taking daily supplements.

Curcumin is also believed to reduce the risk of heart disease, chronic diseases related to ageing and one recent study showed that curcumin was a likely contributor to the death of cancer cells. Curcumin decreases oxidation which means it helps heal wounds. It boosts brain-derived neurotropic factor, which means it lowers the risk of brain diseases such as depression, Alzheimer’s and can help to improve memory overall. If no scientists have claimed this spice as a superfood yet, I’m officially doing it now, “it’s a superfood and we all NEED it in our lives!” Pretty sure hearing “glowing skin” and “death of cancer cells” is enough to make anyone give it a go!

What can you do to get the best results from your turmeric products?

If you don’t want to eat a mountain of tikka masala to get your dosage, the best way to get it into your system is through consumables like tea, capsules, turmeric hot chocolates and latte blends. Just keep in mind that curcumin’s absorption ability is actually pretty low. The best way to help your body absorb it is by ingesting it with black pepper which is already found in most turmeric products. This compound is also fat soluble which means that enjoying your turmeric hot chocolate, capsules etc before or after a fatty meal will help increase its effectiveness.

Don’t want to eat or drink turmeric? You can still get the benefits of scar fading, reduced inflammation and glowing skin from topical products like a mask, facial scrub or soap. Also keep in mind that using a completely natural product is your best bet with this spice. Using toxic products with an antioxidant is like working out in the gym for an hour, then going home and eating an entire chocolate cake. The idea is to boost your health and skin’s overall appearance without causing damage at the same time. All products shown in this blog contain curcumin AND they are completely free from toxic substances. You don’t even have to check the ingredients… I’ve already done it for you. You can thank me later…
